Per Clabat 500 caplet Co-amoxiclav: Amoxicillin trihydrate 500 mg, clavulanate K 125 mg. Per 5 mL syr Co-amoxiclav: Amoxicillin trihydrate 125 mg, clavulanate K 31.25 mg. Per 5 mL Forte syr Co-amoxiclav: Amoxicillin trihydrate 250 mg, clavulanate K 62.5 mg. Per Clabat powd for inj Co-amoxiclav: Amoxicillin 1,000 mg, clavulanate K 200 mg
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infections, UTI, skin & soft tissue infections, bone & joint infections, uncomplicated gonorrhoea. Powd for inj Other infections including septic abortion, puerperal & intra-abdominal sepsis. Prevention of infections associated w/ major surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oral: Adult Clabat 500 twice or 3 times daily. Severe infections 1-2 caplet of Clabat 500, 3 times daily. Childn 20/5 to 40/10 mg/kg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Best taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanate or other β-lactam groups (penicillins & cephalosporins). Powd for inj Newborns whose mother is hypersensitive to penicillin or its derivatives. Patients w/ history of jaundice (impaired liver function) associated w/ penicillin or co-amoxiclav use.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, urticaria. Powd for inj Mucocutaneous candidiasis; leukopenia (including neutropenia) & thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis & anemia hemolytic; angioneurotic edema, anaphylaxis, serum sickness-like syndrome, hypersensitivity vasculitis, interstitial nephritis, crystalluria; dizziness, hyperactivity & seizures in patients w/ impaired kidney function or use w/ high doses; inj site thrombophlebitis; indigestion, antibiotic-associated colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis & haemorrhagic colitis), black hairy tongue & superficial tooth discoloration in childn; slight increases in AST &/or ALT; incident hepatic disease associated w/ long-term therapy.
Drug Interactions
May increase blood levels w/ probenecid. May increase prothrombin time w/ oral anticoagulants; incidence of rash w/ allopurinol. Decreased estrogen reabsorption & efficacy of estrogen/progesterone OCs. Increased toxicity of MTX.
